BlueCrest Capital Management

A British-American privately owned hedge fund founded in 2000, trading rates, FX, credit, commodities and equities with about $18bn under management and offices in London, New York, Geneva and Singapore.

BlueCrest Capital Management is a British-American investment management firm and privately owned hedge fund founded in 2000 by Michael Platt and William Reeves, former senior proprietary traders at JPMorgan Chase. It manages capital across multiple asset classes - rates, foreign exchange, credit, commodities and equities - and ranks among the largest alternative asset managers globally, with approximately $18 billion in assets under management as of December 2024.

The firm began with a fixed income macro trading strategy at its launch in 2000 and has since broadened into multi-asset trading strategies spanning rates, foreign exchange, credit, commodities and equities. Its method pairs rigorous quantitative analysis with fundamental market insight, applied within a disciplined macro trading framework. The technical work underlying this spans quantitative analysis, macro trading strategy design, and trading across fixed income, rates, foreign exchange, credit, commodities and equities.

BlueCrest's ownership structure distinguishes it from most of the industry: it invests primarily its partners' and employees' capital rather than external investor capital, aligning the interests of those who build and run the strategies directly with those of the capital at risk. It is privately held and self-funded, and has a reputation for generating strong returns.

The firm operates from offices in London, New York, Geneva and Singapore, with a presence in the United Kingdom and the United States. It operates in the investment management, hedge fund, alternative asset management, financial services and capital markets sectors.
