Jonas Software acquires, manages and builds industry-specific software companies on a global scale. Founded in 1990 as Gary Jonas Computing and part of Constellation Software since 2003, the group operates more than 190 independently managed software businesses across over 40 vertical markets, supplying mission-critical enterprise management software to upwards of 60,000 customers worldwide. Its parent, Constellation Software, is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and reports revenues exceeding $5 billion USD.

The group's defining characteristic is permanence. Jonas has completed more than 185 acquisitions yet has sold no business since its founding, a record it describes as its "Software for Life" philosophy. Ownership is deliberately long-term and buy-and-hold, and acquired companies retain their own autonomy, culture and independence rather than being merged into a single product. The verticals served are demanding and operationally specific - construction, hospitality, healthcare, fitness and club management, food and beverage, education and legal services among them.

For engineers, the appeal lies in the breadth of the domain. Work spans vertical market software, enterprise management systems and industry-specific development across 8,000-plus employees in more than 30 countries, with each business drawing on shared expertise, resources and best practices while keeping its own product and customer relationships. The problems are those of established software firms serving entrenched, long-lived customer bases - not speculative ones.
