Redpanda Data

Redpanda Data builds a C++ streaming data platform compatible with Apache Kafka and an Agentic Data Plane for real-time agent access to enterprise data.

Redpanda Data builds a streaming data platform fully compatible with Apache Kafka but written in C++ rather than the JVM, dispensing with ZooKeeper and eliminating the associated operational overhead. Its patent-pending thread-per-core architecture is the technical centrepiece: the company claims up to 10x lower latencies and up to 6x lower total infrastructure costs than conventional deployments, and the platform handles hundreds of terabytes of data daily in production.

Beyond streaming, Redpanda is developing an Agentic Data Plane, a class of AI infrastructure intended to let intelligent agents safely access, reason over, and act on enterprise data in real time. The engineering work spans real-time data streaming, distributed systems, C++ systems programming, and low-latency infrastructure - a demanding stack, and one where depth in the fundamentals is the currency.

Founded in 2019 by Alexander Gallego, a Colombian immigrant and seasoned engineer, the company operates as a fully remote team distributed across more than 17 countries. Its stated mission is to make real-time data accessible to everyone, with a developer-centric emphasis on reducing infrastructure management burden so engineers can focus on building data applications. Redpanda is backed by Lightspeed, GV (Google Ventures), and Haystack VC.

Customers include Activision Blizzard, Cisco, Moody's, Texas Instruments, Vodafone, and two of the top five U.S. banks - spanning gaming, networking, credit ratings, semiconductors, telecommunications and banking.
