SoFi

SoFi is a fintech and national bank founded in 2011, offering banking, lending, investing and crypto services on one digital platform to over 15.8 million members.

SoFi, founded in 2011 by four Stanford Graduate School of Business students - Mike Cagney, Dan Macklin, James Finnigan and Ian Brady - began with a single proposition: that data science and innovative risk assessment could price student loan refinancing more fairly than traditional lenders, offering lower interest rates to borrowers the incumbents treated uniformly. From that origin the firm has become a national bank and next-generation fintech company, serving over 15.8 million members across the United States through an all-in-one digital platform spanning banking, personal loans, mortgages, credit cards, investing and cryptocurrency services.

The engineering substance of the business lies in the domains behind that platform: data science, risk assessment, mobile-first technology and fintech platform development. These are not adjunct functions but the mechanism by which SoFi prices credit, underwrites risk and delivers a full financial relationship - deposit account, loan, brokerage and crypto wallet - within a single mobile product. For technical professionals, the appeal is the scale at which applied modelling and platform work directly determines member outcomes.

The company describes itself as mission-driven, founded to help people achieve financial independence and to serve younger generations with fair, transparent and accessible financial products. Its stated aim for members is to "get their money right", and its culture remains oriented toward the gaps in traditional banking it set out to disrupt. SoFi operates as a national bank in the United States.
